xcribe does not collect any type data (personal, analytics, usage...). The only data that is stored is the transcription generated from the local recording. This data is stored locally on your device and is not sent to any server.
The website (xcribe.app) is separate from the app, and it uses cookies.
Some cookies are needed for the site to work. We use a third-party provider to protect against bots and abuse. You cannot turn these off.
The website can also use Google Analytics to see, anonymously, how it is used so it can be improved. This is optional. The cookie banner lets you accept or reject it, and you can change your choice any time.
The xcribe Mac application has been sandboxed and hardened so it does not have access to any of your documents, and no other app has access to xcribe and your transcriptions.
All transcription happens in your mac. The recording of your voice is also removed after every transcription.
Your API keys and credentials are stored securely in Apple Keychain — the same system your Mac uses to store passwords and sensitive data. xcribe never stores your credentials in plain text or on external servers.
By default, xcribe uses Apple Intelligence for all transformations. Your transcription data is processed locally on your device and never leaves your Mac. This is the most secure option.
Optionally, you can connect to external AI providers (OpenAI, Anthropic, Google) for more advanced transformations. When using this option, your transcription text is sent to the chosen provider. Your API credentials are securely stored in Apple Keychain.
Consider not sharing sensitive private data in your transcriptions when using external AI providers.
Same rules as the Extended mode. You can choose between Apple Intelligence (local, offline) or your preferred AI provider.
